KYIV–We had a nice broadcast prepared for you today with a great co-host in London but at that last minute, for reasons to be made clear later, I had to remove the guest from the final video.
So this video might look a bit weird today. At the moment it feels mighty hard to report the reality from Ukraine, with so many doors closing. Nevertheless, as promised I continue to make a report every weekday from Ukraine, despite being cancelled by American radio.

Lviv musicians Kings & Beggars and I have created a special version of Carol of the Bells with new lyrics inspired by Ukraine’s current struggle: The Kyiv Carol.
🎄The melody of Carol of the Bells was composed by Mykola Leontovych while teaching music in Pokrovsk—a Ukrainian city that has endured relentless Russian bombing for months.
🎄Despite predictions it would fall by September, Pokrovsk—meaning “Protection of the Virgin Mary”—still stands, though horribly battered.
🎄The Kyiv Carol doesn’t shy away from sadness, fear, or strife, but it also reminds us that even in the darkest times, we can—and must—still say: Merry Christmas!
