Our Blood Proves Our Dedication – Maria Mezentseva
Maria Mezentseva, a member of Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, tells how she was one of the first to arrive in the houses of government when Russia launched its full-scale invasion. She explains why it is important not only for Ukraine to win but also for the free world to hold Russians accountable for crimes against humanity, a concept, incidentally, developed in the 1940s in the western city of Lviv.
In a conversation recorded on Thanksgiving Day with American journalist Joe Lindsley, Maria expresses her gratitude to the USA for its support. Speaking of her native Kharkiv region, Maria describes the rejuvenation of Ukrainian culture. She says that with great weapons and strong air defense, the world need not be governed by "emotions of fears."
DAILY UKRAINE REPORT ON CHICAGO’S WGN RADIO:
War Day 653: Interview with Parliament Member | Missile Strikes, Kidnappings, and European Blockades
🇺🇦 600+ DAYS OF WAR REPORTING on Chicago's WGN Radio with host Bob Sirott and reporter Joe Lindsley, the only American reporting in Ukraine every single day until victory 🎙️ from Friday 8 December 2023
Ten years ago this weekend, hundreds of thousands of people protested in Kyiv against Russia's control, leading to a dramatic turn in Ukraine's fight for freedom. Early this morning, Russia launched missiles at Ukraine, hitting apartment buildings, private houses, and a shopping center in Kharkiv, which is just 30 miles from the Russian border. Ukrainians are frustrated as they are not allowed to attack Russian bases due to agreements with the West.
We share an excerpt of my interview with Maria Mezentseva, a member of Ukraine's Parliament from Kharkiv. She's working to find those kidnapped or deported by Russians, especially children—stories long forgotten by the media. As Hanukkah begins, Deputy Mezentseva also speaks of how Hamas's attack upon Israel was a painful flashback for Ukrainians, recalling Russian brutality especially in the early days of the full-scale invasion.
And the media is missing this story: People in Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary are blockading goods including items necessary for the soldiers from entering Ukraine, with 3,300 trucks stuck at the Polish-Ukrainian border.
