War Day 895: Why Does the Kursk Incursion Matter?
KYIV— For the first time since World War II, a foreign army is now inside Russian territory. It took Ukraine 2.5 years of holding on and preparing to reach this point, but now the people who have wrought war in Europe are feeling war on their soil, albiet in a noticeably gentler way than what Russia has done to the Ukrainian cities it's erased.

KEY POINTS
"It's this strange circumstance where there is ecstatic joy and yet the same people that are experiencing ecstatic joy get text messages about some of their friends being killed back in Ukraine by Russians."
"There are 204 Olympic national committees represented here, and Ukraine is in 17th or 18th place. This is a war-torn country whose gymnasiums have been destroyed by Russian bombs. These athletes have to train outside of their own country, and yet they are dominating."
"Every time they [Ukrainian athletes] are on the front stage, the first thing they want to say is, 'I want to thank all the defenders of Ukraine for allowing me to be here.' Pause and think about that. Everyone else is glad because Coca-Cola or Nike sponsored them. She's glad because a bunch of people are dying for her on the frontline."
"The pressure on them [Ukrainian Olympians] is not just to win gold. They're here to be spokespeople for the nation of Ukraine. There's not another nation in the world that has that issue."

☢️ Ukraine's offensive in Kursk shows that Russia's nuclear threat is a bluff, rendering the entire Biden administration's doctrine of "de-escalation" irrelevant
Firstly, Ukraine has clearly escalated the conflict by initiating the first invasion of a part of russia since WW2.
But it essentially mirrored russia's recent actions in Kharkiv by invading neighboring villages across the border.
Thus, it shows that Russia always escalates and the West does nothing.
💡 But it also shows that when Ukraine escalates, Russia does nothing.
