Why did Zelenskiy go to Bakhmut before DC?

Tonight, 81 years to the week since Winston Churchill addressed the U.S. Congress after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, President Zelenskiy spoke at the same podium.
“We defeated Russia in battle for the minds of the world. We have no fear, nor should the world,” he said, encouraging US lawmakers not to let the Kremlin’s threats cause them to back away from the fight. And by the way, among many other benefits, “Europe is stronger and more independent than ever. The Russian tyranny has lost control over us.”
I understand the concerns of many of the Ukraine skeptics in the USA. They don’t trust the global elites. They’re sick of endless wars.
But as President Zelenskiy, in a Churchillian way, made clear in Congress tonight: This fight is something different.
In 2014 when the Ukrainian people took control of their government, Russia began to invade Ukraine. The global elites looked the other way. They even had a World Cup in Russia.
But from last February, thanks to social media revealing the Russian atrocities, people have stood together against the Kremlin’s tyranny. The elites, who used to love to say Ukraine was corrupt because they were afraid of radically free people, have now followed suit.
By the way, dear Ukraine skeptics: Did you know Ukraine is one of the least vaccinated countries? It is fiercely free. If you love freedom, look to Ukraine.
