War Day 819: While America Restrains Ukraine, Russians Pound Kharkiv

LET’S BE AMERICAN AGAIN?
Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the US Congress, asks US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken why the White House is placing restrictions on the weapons Congress approved for Ukraine. Even Secretary Blinken seems frustrated. Why can’t Ukrainians hit Russian missile launchers on Russian soil, just across the border from Kharkiv?
The question is becoming more urgent. Even today, in the space of a few minutes, Russians sent hellfire upon Kharkiv city and its outskirts, more than 15 missiles. These attacks have intensified in recent days, killing women, women, children; destroying a printing press, parks, and more. The people are of Kharkiv refuse to flee or surrender. But the White House won’t give Ukraine permission to hit back at the Russians unless the Russians fire from Ukrainian soil.
And so the Russians calmly send missiles, EVEN from the middle of traffic on Russian highways, knowing they are protected.

LVIV—Did you know President Zelenskiy was a Russian-language speaker before he ran for president? So much has changed these past years. And maybe there's new change now: a growing chorus in DC is asking the White House why Biden won't let Ukraine hit Russian missile-launchers on Russian soil, while cities like Kharkiv suffer under Moscow hellfire.
UKRAINIAN FREEDOM VOICES
"I think we need to allow Ukraine to prosecute the war the way they see fit. They need to be able to fight back, and I think trying to micromanage the effort there is not a good policy for us" says U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, urging the White House to allow Ukraine to use American tools to hit Russian military targets.

I was reciting Rudyard Kipling’s “If” with friends on a supply delivery trip to Donbas.
And during that road trip I realized this: In the ancient and still flourishing Ukrainian language, the word for “if” literally means “how-what”: a workman like idea of how to achieve the impossible. Because Ukraine never colonized other countries, the Ukrainian language is an easy window into how early Indo-European humans forumated language based on necessity and possibility. —Joe Lindsley

Ukrainian Freedom Supply: Tools for victory
Thanks to our WGN Radio audience in the USA for continued support of our war reporting and of the civilians-turned-soldiers who stand at the front. Here’s a greeting from a Ukrainian Border Guard—incredibly crucial as Russian desperately tries to break into Kharkiv region—saying just how great it is that we got them some walkie-talkies. These little things make a positive difference. We welcome support here.
