It was tough for me to make this report today, as we receive awful news both of heroic deaths and of elite hypocrisy. I was nearly shaking with anger. —JP Lindsley

War Day 565: The Mighty Dither in Delhi, While Fierce People Fight and Die for Freedom
‘YOU’VE ONLY GOT ONE LIFE’
LVIV—Russia was thrilled when the G20 nations, including the USA, agreed upon a statement refusing to condemn Moscow's war against Ukraine.
Meanwhile, far away from the halls of power, regular people keep standing for freedom and dignity—people such as Emma Igual, a Spanish citizen and Cal-Berkeley alumna and Anthony Ihnat, a Canadian, both of whom the Russians killed in a direct attack upon their humanitarian vehicle.
Plus—a Ukrainian friend relayed this dramatic story: Across the border to help the war effort, he realized he could have fled. "You've only got one life," he kept telling himself. Would it be better to flee and forget the war? No, he said—"you've only got one life," and it must be lived well: back to the fight.
"You've only got one life": How did Emma and Anthony choose to live? How do global leaders choose to live? Day by day, the question remains: Is the West—is Washington—in favor of genuine victory for Ukrainians and free people? Or are they afraid of or in strange cahoots with tyrants?
And: Gen Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the BBC that Ukraine has only 30-45 days to make a big move in the summer counter-offensive. Does he not realize that the Abrams tanks won't arrive for a few weeks more? Would it not have made sense to send tanks and fighter jets before rather than after the counter-offensive?

"We Are Waiting For You" Means Something Different in Ukrainian
Notes from a Ukrainian Train
SOMEWHERE IN UKRAINE—In English, when we say, "we are waiting for you," we tend to mean it impatiently, as in "where the hell are you?"
In Ukrainian, when they say "ми чекаємо" in Ukrainian or even when they say "we are waiting for you" in English it means something totally different: It's the epitome of hospitality: whenever you arrive, you will be welcome.
Having lived in NYC, it took me a while to get used to this part of Ukrainian culture. But I much appreciate it and I no longer feel stressed when a Ukrainian sends me a text saying, "we are waiting for you."
